Confidentiality and Privacy Policy
The law protects the relationship between a client and his or her therapist. All information shared in a professional counseling session is confidential and cannot be shared or disclosed with anyone else without written permission of the client.
Exceptions to Confidentiality include:
Child abuse/neglect or dependent adult/neglect or elder abuse/neglect. Dr. Laura is required by law to report this to the appropriate authorities
If a client is threatening serious bodily harm to another person/s. Dr. Laura has a legal and ethical responsibility to inform the proper authorities and the intended victim.
If a client intends to harm himself or herself. Dr. Laura will make every effort to enlist their cooperation in ensuring their safety. If he or she does not cooperate, further measures may be taken in order to ensure his or her safety.
